Credit Crunch hits Estate Agents

14 November 2008

As estate agents struggle to cope with the slump in the housing market up to 300 a month are quitting the website Rightmove. The firm has said that its agency membership was now 1,900 lower than the 12,600 peak a year ago. According to the site, at least three out of every four that left have either gone bust or failed to keep up with membership fees.

The current problems in the housebuilding and estate agent sectors left the site's total base of advertisers 9% down on last October, at 17,500. The more buoyant rental market was providing some support for Rightmove.
