Valentines gestures 'should be covered by insurance'
12 February 2008
With Valentines Day one of the most popular times for people to surprise their partner with a romantic break, one research company advises anybody planning such a gesture to take out travel insurance to avoid the romance turning to bitterness.
Even within the EU, where a certain amount of medical care is provided free of care, travel insurance is still recommendable, according to Defaqto.
Even though EU agreements will ensure travellers receive treatment, not all countries have the same level of treatment as a patient would expect in the UK.
However, not everybody invites their loved one on a holiday break, some opt for jewellery, and this too has to be covered, said the firm.
It may not be romantic to think about filling in forms and changing one's cover but making sure personal possessions are covered when away from home means they can be taken out without fear.
Mike Powell, consultant on general insurance at Defaqto said: "By taking a few minutes to check your insurance cover, you can cover your losses from unforeseen problems and help ensure that you and your loved one have a Valentine's Day to remember, for all the best reasons."
