Travel insurance is available for older people
25 June 2008
Older holidaymakers should have no trouble finding travel insurance, according to the Saga Group.
While many insurance companies have upper age limits on their travel insurance policies, over-65s can easily get holiday cover if they "look in the right place", claims Paul Green of Saga.
Mr Green, head of Saga Group Communications, said: "Insurers now have a better understanding and improved systems - they are more sophisticated on how they rate older ages and include cover for pre-existing conditions."
By shopping around and ensuring a policy is appropriate for any health conditions they have, over-65s can get a good deal on their travel insurance.
"It is best to shop around and be clear and honest with yourself about what pre-existing conditions you have. You should also not just choose your policy based on price but also consider if it covers any pre-existing conditions," said Mr Green.
Research by Age Concern revealed that 92 per cent of travel insurance policies impose upper age limits, refusing to provide cover for older people.
