Travel insurance "an absolute must" for gap year travellers
07 April 2008
Backpackers are being urged to take out adequate travel insurance before they jet of on gap years or lengthy holidays.
According to student travel firm STA, taking out travel insurance is an "absolute must", particularly if the traveller plans to take part in adventure activities.
The travel company, which specialises in gap year and backpacker holidays, also recommended that travellers ensure they are fully prepared before they leave.
Figures from i-to-i found that 29 per cent of people planned to quit their jobs in 2007 to take a gap year - double the statistic from four years previously.
A spokesperson for STA travel said: "Travel insurance is an absolute must for any traveller to ensure they are covered for every eventuality wherever they are in the world."
They added: "We would recommend that travellers plan as much of their trip as possible in advance.
"There are RSS live feeds that travellers can subscribe to via their mobile phone, which will keep them up to date with 'what's on when' and flight offers - great content for the active traveller."
