Storms generate 'thousands of insurance claims'
25 March 2008
Storms and heavy snow which have hit certain areas of the country this month have already seen thousands of homeowners make insurance claims, it has been revealed.
Despite April being just around the corner, parts of Britain have been subject to bad weather in recent weeks, particularly over the bank holiday.
Sainsbury's Finance believes that the freak storms have already seen 20,400 home insurance claims and that hundreds of thousands more are expected to follow.
Neil Laird, home insurance manager at Sainsbury's Finance, said: "Bad weather is increasingly the culprit when it comes to damage to homes and really highlights the importance of having adequate cover in place.
"If you have been unlucky enough to have your home or car damaged by the storms, our advice is to contact your insurer now and not delay in submitting your claim so you can get back to normal as soon as possible."
The supermarket giant's research found that ten per cent of UK adults have no home contents insurance while five per cent of homeowners do not have buildings cover.
