Protect identity when moving house
06 March 2008
Anyone who has endured the nightmare of identify theft knows that the consequences for personal finances and the ability to get credit can take years to unwind.
And yet the prime time for identity theft is when householders fail to register with utility services and financial institutions their change of address details.
To make matters worse, research by iammoving.com shows that it takes on average 20 letters and five hours worth of work to notify all relevant contacts.
However, all that is about to change as Royal Mail partners with a new online service, iammoving.com, which advises about 1,500 organisations of changes with one simple request from the customer.
Peter Beckett, business development director for iammoving.com, says that the service will help people move house with greater ease.
"Anybody who is moving house has the ability to now notify all organisations of their change of address onto one system. They enter their details of their old home and their new home once, their move date and then they [have] the ability to notify them. At the moment
just under half can be done electronically," he said.
