Motorcycling courses can reduce insurance premiums

23 May 2008

Motorcyclists should take an awareness course to help lower their insurance premiums and improve their alertness, claims an insurance company.

While 16,360 motorcyclists were injured in 2006, according to the department for transport, riders can improve their safety by gaining extra training, claim AA insurance.

Ian Crowder, public relations manager at AA Insurance, said: "You can reduce the risk of having an accident by taking a motorcycle awareness course and taking such courses can reduce your insurance premiums."

Motorcyclists aged between 16 and 34 are most likely to benefit from a course as they are the age group with the most recorded accidents, according to the department for transport.

"We're certainly seeing accidents involving bikes going up, there are more claims and bikes are generally more risky," said Mr Crowder.

Men were more successful at motorcycling tests over 2006/7 with a 67 per cent pass rate compared to the 54 per cent pass rate of women, according to official statistics.ADNFCR-1395-ID-18607296-ADNFCR
