More Britons returning to work

16 July 2008

An increasing number of retirees are returning to work because they failed to plan for their retirement, according to Zurich.

Research by Zurich revealed that of the 64 per cent of Britons who are considering working after retirement, 31 per cent are doing so because the failed to plan financially.

Tony Solomon, business development director at Zurich UK Life, said: "There is real need to alert people to the importance of planning for their retirement from an early age."

Without contributing sufficiently to a pension or budgeting realistically for life after retirement, people could face having to return to work in a bid to avoid poverty, claims Zurich.

"There is a real danger that for those already enjoying their retirement, may be last generation to experience the financial freedom of a carefree retirement spent living off the children's inheritance," added Mr Solomon.

According to the research by Zurich, 65 per cent of Britons expect to holiday once a year after retiring.ADNFCR-1395-ID-18687278-ADNFCR
