Lifestyle can affect health insurance premiums
20 August 2008
Having a healthy lifestyle and getting health insurance cover at an early age will reduce the cost of premiums, claims the Patients Association.
The Patients Association advise people who want private health insurance to arrange it when they are young as that is the time when they will be most healthy and their premiums will stay low if they hang on to the policy.
Vanessa Bourne, a spokesperson for the Patients Association, said: "Our advice would be that if you want private coverage, get it early in life when it should be cheaper."
According to Ms Bourne, every time you apply for new health insurance your lifestyle will be reassessed and this is likely to increase premiums.
"Every time the 'meter' starts again with new cover, patients' health changes and age may well reduce the cover available or at least raise the premium," she added.
National statistics reveal that boys and girls born in the UK can expect, on average, to live to 76.9 years and 81.3 years of age respectively.
