Insurance is important for weddings abroad
12 August 2008
Couples who are considering marrying abroad should get wedding insurance, according to the British Insurance Brokers Association (BIBA).
According to statistics, people would benefit from marrying abroad as the average cost of a UK wedding is almost six times the cost of a wedding overseas but such an event would require insurance in order to protect against specific emergencies.
Peter Staddon, a spokesperson for BIBA, said: "A wedding is different and, as such, brings with it other problems, the dress, the rings, the wedding refinery."
Due to the expected consumption of alcohol wedding parties are being warned to take the necessary precautions not to invalidate their wedding insurance, claims Mr Staddon.
"They expect the holiday maker to have a drink, but there needs to be the line between responsibility and recklessness," he added.
Research by First Choice Travel Shops and Holiday Hypermarkets revealed that 80 per cent of people think a traditional white wedding is more stressful to organise than nuptials in the Caribbean.
