Independent holidaymakers should check their insurance
08 July 2008
Tourists who organise their own arrangements instead of booking a package holiday should check their travel insurance, according to AXA.
While an increasing number of holidaymakers are travelling abroad independently their holiday insurance may not include cover for airport problems such as flight cancellations, delays or missed connections, claims AXA.
Edward Dutton, AXA's head of Personal Lines Underwriting, said: "Travel insurance has come under some criticism for some of the exclusions in a traditional policy."
By talking to an insurance provider before jetting off on holiday, tourists can ensure that their policy has the appropriate protection for their break abroad and that there are no gaps in their insurance cover.
"We hope that over the coming weeks people will look carefully at what they really need and make sure they get the right cover for their holiday," said Mr Dutton.
Research by Gapyear.com revealed that 25 per cent of young travellers travel uninsured or underinsured.
