Holiday homeowners should extend their insurance
12 August 2008
People who own holiday property but rarely visit it should consider extending their home insurance policy, according to the AA.
Research by Zurich Private Clients revealed that the average holiday home contains valuables worth £15,200 while two thirds of people visit no more frequently than once every three months and because of this contents should be covered by insurance, claims the AA.
Ian Crowder, public relations manager for the AA, said: "It's a good idea to have an extension on your UK home contents policy which gives cover for your personal property anywhere in the world."
According to Mr Crowder, by extending UK home insurance so that personal possessions are covered anywhere in the world, homeowners can have peace of mind.
"If you do lose your camera while you're out there
and all your stuff is damaged, then you can claim on your UK home insurance policy," he added.
One in ten people do not have insurance for their holiday homes, according to research by Zurich Private Clients.
