Go green for cheaper tax and insurance

30 April 2008

Motorists who drive green vehicles benefit from cheaper tax and car insurance, revealed the British Insurance Brokers' Association (BIBA).

With the Budget announcing a rise in car tax and fuel costs, car drivers are urged to seek out cheaper modes of transport.

Graeme Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive for BIBA, said: "People are looking, especially at the moment with the credit crunch, at what the most affordable methods of transport are."

Gas guzzlers such as 4x4s and large family cars are coming under increasing pressure with more plans to tax vehicles which are not fuel efficient.

Motorists are asked to save on their car insurance by restricting mileage and regularly servicing their vehicle which can decreases emissions.

"Road tax is priced according to your emissions as well, so there are financial benefits to driving greener vehicles, both in tax and insurance," Mr Trudgill added.

Despite the benefits of choosing more environmentally-friendly transport, green cars will only account for 0.2 per cent of Britain's car population this year. ADNFCR-1395-ID-18574049-ADNFCR
