Drivers in Ireland should check their insurance policy
02 June 2008
British motorists driving in Ireland should check their insurance policy to ensure they have the appropriate cover, according to AA Ireland.
Although 4.97 million Britons visited Ireland in 2006, according to Tourism Ireland, and were able to use their UK driving license, some may not have had the full cover necessary for driving in another country.
Thomas Brosnan, spokesman for the AA Ireland, said: ""If a person is bringing their own vehicle here, certainly they should check with their own insurance company the level of cover they will have while here."
While British AA members are completely covered in Ireland, motorists are advised to check whether in case of an accident they have comprehensive or third-party only cover, according to the insurance company.
"It would be advisable for the motorists to take out their own breakdown cover
because if there's an accident or whatever it can be expensive," said Mr Brosnan.
Research by Tourism Ireland revealed that 63 per cent of British holidaymakers stayed in Dublin while visiting Ireland in 2006.
