Dentistry for the budget
12 March 2008
While a trip to the dentist might fix a hole in the tooth, without a proper level of dental insurance cover, the wallet can fall into decay quite quickly.
The British Dental Health Foundation says that it is important that consumers check the level of cover they have, and if necessary they should increase the premium to ensure that they are covered.
Leigh Greenwood, head of media at the foundation, said that preventative care is the most important strategy to employ for dental care and to get problems before they become too big.
"Regular visits to the dentist are vital as part of a good oral healthcare routine which should also include twice daily brushing with fluoride toothpaste and cutting down how often you have sugary food and drinks," he said.
Figures obtained by the Information Centre for Health and Social care show that 8.8 million courses of dental work were carried out in Britain in the last three months.
