Caravan insurance 'a must'
02 April 2008
Caravan owners are being urged to ensure that their mobile home away from home is adequately insured, especially in areas that are prone to flooding.
Safeguard Insurance says that last year's floods were a timely example of the need to check policies and notify insurers of your plans - especially when travellers are staying in flood prone areas.
Popularity of caravanning is on the increase in Britain with 19 per cent of paid holiday makers now doing so in a caravan, and British caravan parks turning over £3.1 billion in figures released by the British Holiday and Home Parks Association.
Rita Sadler, a spokesperson for Safeguard Insurance, said that although caravans were covered against flooding, insurance policies were affected by last year's floods.
"Most policies cover flood, although a site that is prone to flooding or has recently flooded should be referred to your insurer. If it's touring, of course, then you've just got to make sure that you're saying to your people: 'Just be careful.'," she said.
Ms Sadler added that caravan insurance was not mandatory, but it was wise to cover it against flood and other types of damage.
