Brits warned to insure sports equipment

10 April 2008

Homeowners are being urged to ensure they include expensive sports equipment such as golf clubs when purchasing home insurance.

The warning comes after figures show that many items which are used for sports are being left gathering dust in sheds and outhouses which are often targeted by thieves.

A survey by LV= shows that 19 per cent of households contains a set of golf clubs but that half of these have not teed off in over six months.

Emma Holyer, spokesperson for LV= home insurance, said: "It's easy to forget how much it costs to replace sporting equipment such as golf clubs.

"We tend to think that the most costly things to replace are jewellery or electronics, but sporting equipment can cost hundreds if not thousands of pounds for specialist kit.

"As electronics become increasingly difficult to sell on, some thieves are now targeting sporting equipment as it's easy to sell on the black market."ADNFCR-1395-ID-18546036-ADNFCR
