Animal owners should get pet insurance

09 July 2008

Pet owners should protect their animal's health with insurance cover, according to insurance companies.

With the credit crunch starting to tighten household budgets, pet owners should take out insurance to avoid costly vet fees which are increasing by 12 per cent every year, according to research by Animal Friends Insurance.

Chris Price, head of pet insurance for Churchill, said: "Pet insurance is a must for all pet owners. Not only will it cover medical expenses up to £3,000, but will also cover other unfortunate events, such as your pet getting lost or stolen."

Hereditary illnesses are common among many pets so it is important to have insurance in order to pay for treatment, claims Churchill.

"In worse case situations, animals have had to been put to sleep because their owner could not afford the cost of their medical treatment," said Mr Price.

Research by Sainsbury's Finance revealed that over 11 million dog and cat owners have no pet insurance cover for their animals.ADNFCR-1395-ID-18675855-ADNFCR
