Internet users should take out ID fraud insurance
19 May 2008
People should take out identity fraud insurance because internet fraudsters are becoming more sophisticated, claim Equifax.
With cyber-crime like identity fraud on the rise, people should be increasingly careful when using the internet for financial transactions.
Neil Munroe, external affairs director at Equifax, said: "Whether it's Facebook and other social networking sites or sophisticated phishing or emails pretending to be your bank, those are the areas where people have really got to watch out and take some care."
With nearly 80,000 cases of identity fraud reported last year, according to CIFAS, people should be aware of the range of identity fraud insurance available to them.
"There are more policies out there and they are quite varied in what they cover, from basic support to more involved support," said Mr Munroe.
According to CPP, residents of London are in the most danger of identity fraud as 20 per cent of Londoners had their credit card stolen in the last year.
