Credit card companies to freeze interest rises
12 December 2008
Credit card companies have agreed to stop raising interest rates on their cards.
Some credit cards had previously raised their interest rates by more than 10%. The firms have now signed up to a set of "fair principles" with the government. Measures will also be taken to help those struggling to make payments.
Consumer Affairs Minister Gareth Thomas said "It was vital we nipped bad practices in the bud".
