Asia savings may benefit UK investors
31 March 2008
Nervous investors are being encouraged to consider investing in Asia.
Financial services group, Hargreaves Lansdown, has said that investing into emerging markets this year could prove lucrative for British investors still reeling from the share market turmoil of the first quarter of 2008.
Meera Patel, senior analyst from Hargreaves Lansdown, said that in the days leading up to the end of the financial year, investors should consider the tax effectiveness of their investments.
"We are keen on the long term growth story for Asia and emerging markets and we believe a regular savings into these higher risk regions is a great way to benefit as you buy shares when the prices are low," she said.
She added that by using an Isa or SIPP, investors would enjoy favourable tax treatment while holding some cash while they waited for confidence to return to the markets.
In December, a HBOS study forecast that savings into Isas would reach £240 billion this year.
