All adults 'should have an Isa'
15 April 2008
All adults in the UK should ensure they have an Isa account and make the most of the tax free savings it provides, it has been claimed.
Roy Beale, media relations officer at Nationwide, said that consumers should take advantage of one of the "few opportunities" where you can avoid paying tax.
"Isas really can be easy to understand and it is important that more is done to encourage people to use their yearly allowance", he added.
His comments follow research carried out last month by the building society which found that 75 per cent of people were unaware that changes had been made to Isas in April.
According to Nationwide, 62 per cent of people in the UK still do not have an Isa and one in five have avoided taking one out because they feel confused by them.
"Every adult in the UK should have an Isa" so that they can benefit from the "tax-efficient savings vehicle", Mr Beal said.
