Cities prove expensive for car insurance
11 September 2008
Car insurance in Britain's major cities is more expensive than in other areas, according to the British Insurance Brokers' Association (BIBA).
The Motor Insurance Bureau (MIB) has released new statistics on postcode related uninsured driving which reveals that areas in the midlands and metropolitan regions are amongst the worst offenders, which is due to the expense, claims BIBA.
Graeme Trudgill, BIBA technical and corporate affairs executive, said: "One of the main reasons for putting people off buying insurance in the middle of Birmingham or middle of London is that it's extremely expensive compared to if you're living in a nice village in Wales."
Mr Trudgill advised that people should go to insurance brokers rather than evade car insurance as new measures are being introduced to catch uninsured drivers.
"The laws are there and they will catch you if you try and evade and the net is tightening," he added.
According to the MIB, the police seized over 150,000 uninsured vehicles last year, with 40 per cent of them being disposed.
